DID YOU KNOW…?

Mother Theresa once implored listeners who want to bring peace to the world to go home and love their families. This simple command is the holiday wish for many children, who can only hope their parents will take this call to heart.

In 2019 across Southwest Colorado, Child Protective Services received 30 reports of sexual abuse, while Mercy Regional Medical Center saw 24 pediatric sexual assault cases. According to local professionals, it is estimated that over 100 child assaults go unreported each year.

WHY WE NEED YOU NOW:

Due to COVID-19 and the lack of access to in-person schools and trusted adults, many children are experiencing “unsafe home environments”. With a rise in separation and divorce rates, we are also experiencing increased need for exchange and supervised home visits – especially as financially stressed families are forced to choose between seeing their kids or paying bills.

With projected rising case counts on the horizon and with substantial budget cuts, our GOAL is to raise $50,000 to meet regional demand. Now more than ever, we need your support to continue our work for these children.

CHILD ADVOCACY CENTER

One of the more powerful tools 4 the Children can wield to serve our mission to protect childhood today for stronger families tomorrow, is to develop a Child Advocacy Center, which is a community-based, child-friendly, multidisciplinary service for children and families affected by sexual abuse. A CAC allows victims to come forward safely and confidently – and only tell their traumatic story once to one trusted adult.

Currently, La Plata and Archuleta counties are one of only three areas in Colorado that does not have a CAC. With your help, we can change that.
