Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer

Court Appointed Special Advocates for children (CASA) is a national program that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children. A CASA is a volunteer assigned to a case within the Dependency and Neglect (D&N) System to ensure the best interest of the child(ren). CASA volunteers tip the scales for children. We serve La Plata, Montezuma, Dolores, Archuleta, and San Juan Counties.

Volunteer Tasks Include
:

  • Completing the CASA training and being sworn in by the judge
  • Engage with and observe the child(ren) through regular visitation, as well as learn all you can
  • Write a court report based on what you have learned and observed; make recommendations about what is in the best interest of the child
  • Attend training once monthly to learn new skills and connect with other volunteers
